BMW Actively Recruiting 'Electronauts' to Lease New ActiveE

German automaker BMW has successfully built up a lot of buzz around their ActiveE EV and Electronaut field tests. If you haven't previously read about them here, you've likely heard or read about them elsewhere. BMW Gallery of Norwood doesn't know about you; but, we've been on the edge of our seats with anticipation. Or we were... Until late January, when BMW did more than just talk about the exciting new project.

That's right; BMW has officially opened recruitment for Electronauts. In hearing this news, we leapt off our seats. Our fists pumping through the air like we were watching our favorite sports team make a huge comeback in a high-stakes game.

Of course, we've since settled back on the edge of our seats and are eager to give you the 411 on how to become an Electronaut. That way, you can tell all of your interested friends and family.

Perhaps the most important thing to know about the U.S. Electronaut program, is that it will be limited to 700 drivers with a pioneering spirit in select metropolitan markets of Massachusetts, Connecticut, New York and California. The second most important thing to know is that, BMW will accept qualifying applicants on a first-come-first-serve basis. This means it's critical that interested parties heed the Latin proverb, carpe diem, and visit www.bmwusa.com/ActiveE at their next earliest convenience.

Of course, before anyone applies to participate, it's important to know exactly what it is you're signing up for. Essentially the Electronaut program is a field test which allows BMW enthusiasts to lease an ActiveE electric vehicle for two years at $499/mo., after paying $2,250 down. More than that, Electronauts have the opportunity to help BMW revolutionize the performance EV segment by providing BMW with real-world feedback on their driving experiences. Ultimately, drivers are signing on to help direct the development of production BMW EVs to come.
